Network Marketing on Steriods

Is success a state of mind? What separates an average person from an extraordinary person? What makes one person excel while another seems to fail at every corner? These are question that each of us ask ourselves on a daily basis and weather you realize it or not this is the root of attraction marketing. I have to go back to a book that I’ve read a few times “Think And Grow Rich”, I take that back I downloaded it to my I-Pod and listen to it when ever I travel. My point is that long before I was a successful person, I wanted to be a successful person. And long before I ever read Napoleon Hills book I was already programing my mindset with leadership skills. Now like a big lump of play dough I had not yet sculpted my future or for that matter a plan for success. What I did understand was that I had been given the same opportunity as everyone else and if I wanted to make a better life for myself than I had to EARN it. I don’t know about you but I was never been given anything in my life I had to scrape for everything I’ve ever achieved. Understand I’m not complaining in fact just the opposite, I learned early on if you want something then you have to earn it plain and simple.

Fast forward a few years, I moved to Boston after getting a divorce. I decided I wanted to be in the software industry where there were few jobs unless you were a programmer. In fact, I created my job by shear persistence. I saw an add for a software sales person in the Boston paper, so I applied along with over 560 others. After my interview and a few days of not hearing anything, I decided to follow up, every time I called the same reply, no decision has been made. After a couple of weeks of that, I went down to the office at 5pm and waited for the interviewer to leave the office.

I found out that the owner of the company would be making the decision but he was out of the country until the following Friday. What did I do? I was there when SuperShuttle dropped him off and I sat in the lobby until he finally asked me if anyone could help me. You should have seen his face when I told him I had been waiting for his return for over two weeks for him to hire me. After 10 minutes, I was in HR completing all the employment paperwork. Now remember when I said I created my position from shear persistence? Well the HR person they were surprised I was being hired because the owner had decided earlier not the fill the position.

I went on to have a very successful career there and in 2000 left and created another successful software venture before the 2002 industry crash.The lesson I learned was if you worked hard and stayed the course, you could have anything you wanted. Well almost anything I always wished I could dunk a basketball but that just wasn’t in the cards for me but you get my point.

My Crazy MLM career begins:

Now this is a chapter of my life I couldn’t have predicted would happen. One of my business friends called me up one day and says I need you to join my team so I did..LOL. I had no idea he had just changed my life forever by signing me up in an MLM opportunity.  I realized very quickly that I loved this business, I was able to help people get what they wanted and the by product of that was I got everything I wanted. Completely different from what I had been doing for the last many years.  I needed to understand the best and most efficient way to build this business. So what did I do? I learned from the best and became a student of industry. For whatever reason you use Facebook in your personal, or business life, Secure connectivity and privacy have been big topics. Facebook has finally added a new feature to secure your browsing on Facebook. They now have a secure connection (https) but you have to manually set it up, it is not by default.

Facebook said this;

If you’ve ever done your shopping or banking online, you may have noticed a small “lock” icon appear in your address bar, or that the address bar has turned green. This indicates that your browser is using a secure connection (”HTTPS”) to communicate with the website and ensure that the information you send remains private. Facebook currently uses HTTPS whenever your password is sent to us, but today we’re expanding its usage in order to help keep your data even more secure.

Starting today we’ll provide you with the ability to experience Facebook entirely over HTTPS. You should consider enabling this option if you frequently use Facebook from public Internet access points found at coffee shops, airports, libraries or schools.

So this is how you set it up.

Login in to you Facebook Page.

1. Go to Account (upper righthand side of your page)

2. Scroll down and click on Account Settings (should be second from top)

from the My Account window, scroll down to Account Security

3. Click CHANGE

Under SECURE BROWSING(https)

4. Check the box next to “Browse Facebook on a secure connection (https) whenever possible

5. Click Save

There you go, you have now activated the securtiy connection

Have You Handcuffed, YOU?

You can have knowledge. You can have willpower. You can have great relationships with people, but, I do not think you can have true success if you possess this attribute. This is the attribute I see over and over from people that are simply not succeeding. In this blog I am going to show you how you can determine if you have this attribute. In fact, I am going to give you a way to check to see if you have this attribute then I am going to show you how to eliminate it.

The attribute I am referring to is the victim mentality. If you have the victim mentality you will see success slip away from you, but, you have to understand it is solely by your design. When you are a victim and you get a payoff being a victim, you will keep finding reasons why you should continue being a victim. When you enjoy the attention of being a victim and always having something to talk to people about, you get addicted to it and you crave it and it must show up in your life.

But wait, here is the hilarious part. Some of you reading this are thinking, “Yeah, I hate people that act like victims too”, watch out, you may have some victim attributes too there Mr or Mrs High and Mighty! Here are some examples how you can determine if you have a small to massive victim mentality:

Circumstance: Someone at work gets a promotion and a big pay raise or hits a new level in their MLM.
Victim: They don’t deserve that pay raise, how come I never get a pay raise? A victim will say this even if they never even applied for the position or tried to hit that new rank.

Circumstance:Anything bad happens to you (car accident, parking ticket, argument with spouse, etc)
Victim: This always happens to me. Figures. They attach the circumstance to their actual identity. They equate bad things happening as just how life is. They believe the world conspires against them. They focus more on a story they created about what happened versus moving in a positive direction. Mired in their current circumstances they become exhausted focused on crap that already happened that they can do nothing about.

Circumstance:A person reaches out for help.
Victim: Usually won’t voice this in front of others as that would make them look bad but thinks what about me? They focus on how much help they need.

Circumstance: Someone around them reaches success. (similar to first one)
Victim: Well, if they were so great they should share some money with me, us, people like us, etc. (almost sounds political doesn’t it?)

A victim’s goal is to show you how pitiful they are and how they should be pitied and how anyone of success or ability is evil and bad and non-deserving. Victims will look for the bad in people rather than the good attributes. A victim will search for faults in opportunities, people, companies, etc relentlessly like there is a reward for doing so.

How can you stop being a victim?

Believe in yourself. A victim only believes in their super-power in making everyone else responsible for their failure. The ultimate shift someone can make in their life is stop pointing the fingers and start looking in the mirror. Now, just to head off some riduculous comments I will probably receive, I am not talking about TRUE victims. I am talking about those who play the victim mentality like the government is paying them to do so. (in some cases the government is)

When you focus on forces you cannot control, like anyone but yourself, you lose all your power and you build your frustration. Take charge today. Know that you can be, do or have anything you want but YOU are the one that is responsible. You do not need to find someone new to plug your umbilical cord back into. One of my favorite guys that could have chosen to be a victim but refused, is Lance Armstrong. When the doctors told him he would never, ever ride a bike again and probably would never walk, Lance said “This disease picked the wrong damn body”.

Congratulations on seeking out new and innovative ways to grow your business, it shows you are part of the 3% crowd!

Not too long ago I was a frustrated network marketer. Like most people, I completely believed in the concept, and saw the power of residual income and duplication. Unfortunately, there were a few problems. First, I was spending time talking to people who had absolutely no interest in the message I was trying to convey. Most people are so beaten down by society, they cannot see themselves as being successful. Simply put, many people today just accept their station in life and believe what they are told that they can’t have everything they want.

Now to put this a bit in perspective, it hasn’t always been this way. In the not so distant past, small business ownership and rugged entrepreneurism ruled the land in many countries. In some emerging countries today this is still the case.

Unfortunately, many people today have accepted their fate in life and have chosen mediocrity over excellence. While the Good Samaritan in all of us would like to help these people, we can’t until they make a decision to change.

The second problem is that when I did find some 3 percenters for my business, they faced the same struggle I did in surrounding themselves with other success minded people. Leaders in networking kept telling me about all this duplication, but in my mind it was an elusive concept that possibly didn’t exist. My team only grew when I grew it, that doesn’t sound like duplication to me!

So we identified a couple of problems. Wasting time talking to people who don’t care what you have to say, and lack of true duplication in your organization. So why do so many new networkers fail to meet their goals? It’s not a lack of desire or enthusiasm, nor is it that networking, as a concept, won’t work.

The keys to seeing success in this industry today are not being taught by most of the leaders. Over the past 10 years or so, marketing has taken a fundamental and drastic turn. No different than when the automobile was invented, many people chose to continue using their horse and buggy even though the auto provided increased efficiency and convenience. Many people in our industry are simply unwilling to change because they were successful using old school methods.

But for those of us who want to embrace strategies that make this industry easier for the average Joe, a path now exists. So read on, renew your hope and excitement for this business model, and get the success you deserve!

As I have told many people when asked about Network Marketing, it can really change your life and financial status… if you know how to do it! If done right, you can surpass your richest neighbor or that rich uncle the family keeps brown nosing up too.

The true advantages other that the incredible financial rewards is the time you have to spend with your family or friends and it can be managed from home…hence the name, home-based business.

There are some fundemental items you must know, let’s call them the basics. You can neither skips them or try to replace them with inferior items. If you aren’t able to master the basics, then you better go back to your job swapping time for money. I really don’t care what others might say when it comes to the basics, if you want to be successful, you need to stay true to the basics below.

1. Investment

You will need to invest in your home-based business, network marketing or MLM. Be prepared to invest up to $1,000 in your new business. Do not believe you can get in a business for $100 and expect to have a huge financial gain! I am sure your smart enough to understand that.

2. Quality

Quality of the product is incredibly important, infact, more important than any other item on this list. The product or service can’t be just good, or just great, it has to amazing, incredible, ect… If your not a good judge of the product and your being pressured to get in, simple tell the person to let you have a sample for a couple of days, (if they want you in, they will do this) and just ask your friends to give you their honest thoughts when you show them the product or service. DO NOT TELL THEM IT IS MLM or anything like that as it will cause a false positive with their accessment. If they don’t say “I just have to have one, where did you get it?” then do not sign up or buy it. Plain and Simple!

3. Relationships

I don’t care what the business is, traditional, home-based, network or MLM, they are all about product sales and product sales is all about relationships. Network Marketing Business Opportunity is always about relationship building and the maintaining of it, as opposed to what other people think MLM are, ie;business scams. Most of the time, the “Business Scams” are really like a bad divorce, but labeled “Business Scams’ because most pick the wrong life partners or MLM system because they didn’t go after quality, they went after emotional desire. (see #2)

4. MLM Upline

The key to look for if you have decided the product or service is amazing (not emotionally) is to see what kind of immediate support and continued support the upline is providing? Do they have a continuious training program and a “bootcamp” to get you started? Are they more traditional (looking for your to have house parties) or do they embrace new trends and technologies such a internet marketing? These are very key items is you plan to be successful.

5. MLM Downline

Does your upline have a clear strategic plan for you to build your downline? If not, then you should run as fast as you can away from them. The days of primarily building your downline by calling your friends and family, and passing out cards is over (old School), today, to have real success, you use the internet and exploiting it’s marketing opportunities.

Network marketing is for everyone who wants to have a change of lifestyle. If you are tired of taking orders from your boss, then here is a great chance to become your own boss.

What Model is Right for Me?

No! This isn’t a pitch for a Biz Opp or Marketing System. It’s just a generic overview of what’s out there for the average person wanting to start a business, but no idea on what is available.

You basically have 4 major business models that MOST people can do. What I’m going to do is break them down and give some advantages and disadvantages.

Traditional Brick and Mortar Business

The bread and butter of the American Entrepreneur! This is the most popular business model of past generations and is still wildly popular today. Virtually anyone with an idea and some ambition can hang their shingle out, so to speak, and be in business. From a car lot to a restaurant to a toy store, this is what created the most economic growth in the US and many other countries.

Advantages:

You have total control over your business, you can set your own hours (But if you’re not open, you’re not making money!), you may not need employees, you can sell your own products or other peoples.

Disadvantages:

You will probably need to purchase land and a building, lots of potential overhead, no established business or marketing plan, you will probably have to work long hours.

Online Traditional Business

You can take your brick and mortar business and move it on the Internet, or you can establish an Internet only business. This option is becoming much more prevalent as we all know. And each year, there are more opportunities to build a business online. Say for example you like making candles. You can build a website and start selling your candles around the world.

Advantages:

Like a traditional brick and mortar business, you have total control over your business. In this case though, you really can set your own hours because by using the automation provided by the web, your products can be selling while you are asleep. And unless you manufacture something, you may not even need employees.

Disadvantages:

You still need products or servicse that you either have to make or buy from someone else, and you will have to come up with your own business and marketing plan. You create some leverage by being able to be open 24 hours a day, but you will have to process orders, ship them and restock your merchandise.

Franchising

This offers some great advantages and is becoming a very popular form of business ownership. It allows you to leverage the your sales and marketing efforts from an established brand, and you will have a customized business plan that is already proven to work. In return for this, you will have very significant upfront costs.

Advantages:

Slightly less control over your business as your franchise license requires you to run your business a certain way. An established, proven business and marketing plan. You will be able to leverage some of your personal time because you will now have managers in your business. And you have the ability to purchase more franchises if you’re successful

Disadvantages:

Upfront costs for many successful franchises will be in the millions of dollars, lots of employee costs such as unemployment, workers compensation, and heath care. You will have a large investment in a location where the local demand could change over time. High monthly overhead costs. And it may be difficult to sell the business.

“Leverage”

Now, before we move on to the last business model, let’s talk about this thing called leverage. Leverage has a lot of different meanings, but lets take it in the context of your personal time and money.

Why does a person who owns a store hire a sales manager and a sales force? Why don’t they just do all the selling themselves and save the salary and commission? Because by hiring a sales force, they are able to duplicate their efforts and create simultaneous sales. Like creating a bunch of clones, when trained properly and ethically, to grow the enterprise. This is leverage.

So, let’s take a brief moment and think about how we could create the best form of business out of all the advantages and none of the disadvantages of the previous 3. Here’s the list of advantages summarized.

  • Set my own hours
  • Have an established business and marketing plan
  • Only have employees if I wanted them, but I wouldn’t need them
  • Business would run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with or without me
  • You could run the business globally using a laptop computer & an Internet connection
  • Could have as many franchises as you want for very low cost
  • Sell other people’s products or your own
  • Recruit and train the sales team you want using your ideal hiring criteria

10 years ago, this ideal business didn’t exist. But thanks to a little invention called The Internet, it exists and is creating success for people each and every day. This business model is called

“Online Network Marketing”

Now, you probably have the perception that network marketing involves going door to door selling toothpaste or bugging all your friends to do something they don’t want to do.

WRONG!

Honestly, if you had a BMW dealership, would you hire some of your friends to be your top sales rep? I know I wouldn’t! The internet has allowed us to segment and market to groups like never before. We can now find customers who are looking for our product, and we can recruit people from all over the world who are the ideal fit for our team. No different than if you were hiring salespeople for your business.

This ain’t your Granddaddy’s MLM opportunity.

The bottom line is this. Any of the business models we have talked about today are viable options for you as a budding entrepreneur. But if you want to realize true leverage, Internet Network Marketing may be the best fit. It is cheaper to start than a brick & mortar or franchise business, it will have an established business & marketing plan, and you will have the mentorship benefits like franchising as you will be working on a team with successful people interested in your success.

Don’t Make Network Marketing Any More Complicated Than It Is.

By using the power of the internet, you can market to the entire world with your product or service, you can build a sales team that reaches across all hemispheres, and you can create a customer base in any country you choose.

You can leverage your efforts and your time by finding like minded people to join you in your quest. No matter what some out there may say, Networking in the 21st Century isn’t your Granddaddy’s MLM.

People that may even financially benefit from your success. This can be found in Network Marketing. As I mainly blog about network marketing topics, most of the people reading this will be in a network marketing company. If you are not at the rank of level of income you want to be, work hard to get with people that will hold you accountable and kick you in the butt when you need it. This may be painful to you, it may be uncomfortable, and it may even really, really suck but it all comes down to how hungry are you for succcess?

You have probably heard that anyone of any level of success has had coaches, this is true without a doubt. I have a coach and I constantly learn from this coach. One of the major things I love about the network marketing industry is you are surrounded by people that want you to succeed. Quite different from corporate America where everyone is fighting for the scraps of food that the bosses and owners want to give to the employees and then the employees want to ensure you don’t get bigger crumbs than they do. In whatever network marketing company you are in, go to your sponsor first and tell them that you want to be held accountable to get to the next level. If they are not a fit for you, go to their upline, then their upline, then their upline, don’t be a lazy weiner and say that your sponsor isn’t that great so it won’t work for you. If you truly cannot find an upline person that is willing to coach and help you, why the hell did you join that company? Seriously, this is a big deal for MLM and you need to be in an area where you will be helped to grow bigger than you currently are.

I can hear some of you now, “I don’t need no stinking coach” Let me ask you a question then? Are you bigger than Lance Armstrong? Michael Jordan? Donald Trump? THEY ALL HAVE PEOPLE THAT KICK THEM IN THE BUTT, you are no exception. I can assure you that no one of any level of success got there by themselves so if you are serious about breaking through your barriers and getting to the level of success you desire, surround yourself with people that will kick you in the butt, not pat you on the back!

I know you’re probably scratching your head on this one, but it is not a trick question! Some months back, I was reading from my mentor’s blog and he asked the question “Would You Sign Up With You?” Now if that is not a puzzling questions, then your probably have thought about it before.

For some of you, that question is not very pleasant to even think about. But this, like I try with all my posts, is meant to be helpful, not hurtful. Understanding how you determine and answer the question, “Would you sign up with you?” can help you determine a right course of action to become someone of value that will attract others that WANT to hand you their credit card and sign up with you in your network marketing business.

Question One: Do you desire a leader that complains about spillover, upline support or how tough the business is?

Probably not. so if you want to be a leader and get others wanting to join your team, avoid these income reducing activities immediately.

Question Two: Would you sign up with someone who was not focused on you and the company you were joining with?

Probably not. In fact, I have sponsored a lot of people that were introduced to my business from someone else, but, that person was also pushing 50 other products so they didn’t want to enroll with someone who wasn’t focused on just one. I have never met someone that made a million a year in network marketing that did more than one company.

Question Three: Do you want a leader that plans how much they are going to do, talks about how much they are going to do, or, someone who actually does something?

You want to enroll with a person of action, so, if you want to attract people, take massive action. There will be people that watch you for months to see how serious you are before they even tell you they are interested. I have had that happen a lot.

Question Four: Do you want to sign someone who brags about what they did in 1958? Or that they were the number 3 earner in XYZ company ten years ago?

Doubtful, so don’t be that has-been. No one cares to hear what you did ten years ago, roll up your sleeves and go to work now.

Question Five: Do you want to sign with someone who isn’t sure about their business and lacks confidence?

Definitely Not, you will not succeed in this business without believing in your company and product.

So you see, if you reverse engineer what attracts you to enroll with someone, you can figure out the traits you need to have and also the traits you want to avoid to be a successful leader in mlm.
