Network Marketing on Steriods

I know you’re probably scratching your head on this one, but it is not a trick question! Some months back, I was reading from my mentor’s blog and he asked the question “Would You Sign Up With You?” Now if that is not a puzzling questions, then your probably have thought about it before.

For some of you, that question is not very pleasant to even think about. But this, like I try with all my posts, is meant to be helpful, not hurtful. Understanding how you determine and answer the question, “Would you sign up with you?” can help you determine a right course of action to become someone of value that will attract others that WANT to hand you their credit card and sign up with you in your network marketing business.

Question One: Do you desire a leader that complains about spillover, upline support or how tough the business is?

Probably not. so if you want to be a leader and get others wanting to join your team, avoid these income reducing activities immediately.

Question Two: Would you sign up with someone who was not focused on you and the company you were joining with?

Probably not. In fact, I have sponsored a lot of people that were introduced to my business from someone else, but, that person was also pushing 50 other products so they didn’t want to enroll with someone who wasn’t focused on just one. I have never met someone that made a million a year in network marketing that did more than one company.

Question Three: Do you want a leader that plans how much they are going to do, talks about how much they are going to do, or, someone who actually does something?

You want to enroll with a person of action, so, if you want to attract people, take massive action. There will be people that watch you for months to see how serious you are before they even tell you they are interested. I have had that happen a lot.

Question Four: Do you want to sign someone who brags about what they did in 1958? Or that they were the number 3 earner in XYZ company ten years ago?

Doubtful, so don’t be that has-been. No one cares to hear what you did ten years ago, roll up your sleeves and go to work now.

Question Five: Do you want to sign with someone who isn’t sure about their business and lacks confidence?

Definitely Not, you will not succeed in this business without believing in your company and product.

So you see, if you reverse engineer what attracts you to enroll with someone, you can figure out the traits you need to have and also the traits you want to avoid to be a successful leader in mlm.

COME ON TELL ME ALREADY!!

Want to know the secret to building a huge network marketing downline? The secret is so simple but everyone including me, up until yesterday, over-complicates and makes harder than it needs to be. Understanding this one secret will drastically change your income level and your downline almost overnight. When I realized how simple this secret is, yet, how powerful, I had to go to my sphere of influence and get their opinion on it. By the way, my sphere of influence included individuals that have made multiple millions of dollars in network marketing.

Are You Ready for The Secret?

Here is what I know. When you hear what the secret is you will try to negate it. You will try to over-complicate it and say it isn’t really. You will tell me that you think it is more important to buy mlm leads or invest in fancy software. You will tell me that you don’t need to do what this secret tells you to do or that it doesn’t apply to you or that this secret is outdated.

The Secret is…

If you are in network marketing, you are really in the event promotion business. If you can only do one thing for your business it would be to attend events and if you could do two things it would be to invite people to events. First, let’s hear what some folks that have made millions of dollars in network marketing have to say.

Jake Kevorkian is a legend in network marketing for multiple reasons but I will only talk about one. When he was introduced to Network marketing he was actually in a city where almost everyone had heard of his company and was already in it. When his upline suggested he move to another state, Jake did, and then went on to become the number one income earner in his MLM. (Jake is also mentioned in the book “Distributor Rights” written by MLM Watchdog Rod Cook). Jake says, “Not everyone that attends company events will go on to become a 5 figure a month earner, but, anyone who IS to make 5 figures a month SHOW UP at company events.” Jake goes on to say that the number one reason to attend events is to solidify your belief. “The stronger your belief, the more powerful you become presenting the business.

Burke Hedges is an absolute legend in network marketing. From being a top distributor in multiple companies, To date Burke’s books have sold more than 4 million copies and been translated into 20 different languages. Burke says “The number one reason to attend events is simply to achieve your goals faster with the least amount of effort.

Dave Lovett is a veteran of network marketing. His first company that he has not been actively involved in for over 22 years since provides him a massive residual income. Talk about success! Dave says “Major decisions are made at major events, those that do not attend set their businesses back 6 months to a year in relation to those who do attend.

Here is my take:

I gathered a lot of good information talking with those 3 gentlemen and a few others. Here is what I came up with on reasons why one should never, ever miss company or big events.

1) I am an internet marketer. Being an internet marketer sometimes it is difficult to dream up content. By attending big events where leaders are going to be, you get to shoot great video, interviews, pictures and have the inside scoop on your company. This online real estate is priceless and if someone was looking to join a company, do you think they would join with someone who attended the big company event and has pictures and the inside scoop or someone who stayed at home and played on Facebook?

2) Learn marketing tips. With network marketing companies spanning a large area, it is not very often that ALL of the leaders are in one easy to access spot. Imagine being able to go up to every one of the leaders and ask them their biggest marketing tip, would that help your business?

3) Create partnerships. One of the most powerful ways I have used big events is to connect with people I have met or actually sponsored from the Internet. This creates a much more powerful bond that just someone you online chat with every once in awhile.

Big events are rarely about motivation. If you are not motivated enough about your opportunity, it probably isn’t the right one for you. Big events are to take future leaders and get them there quicker or take existing leaders and get better connected with and closer masterminding with their existing team. I can trace every single spike I have had in my network marketing company back to me attending an event.

To have success in life as well as business, you will need to understand, accept and learn that there will be times that you will have to compromise. The trick is to compromise without losing what you absolutely need to accomplish your goal, desire or mission.

The key is all in the negotiating.

Once you understand the fundamentals of negotiation, you will be able to maneuver in and around any meeting with ease whether its business, vendor, partner, basically with anyone and get what you want. (except with me!)

Know exactly what you want when you sit down to negotiate…

Before you start any negotiating, you need to have a clear picture of what you want and what your willing to let go or give up. Faliure to do this will almost certainly result in bad decisions during the negotiations.

Eliminate Disadvantages…

Here are a few disadvantages you can avoid by just planning a little and making the right moves.

1. Don’t back yourself in a corner by starting the negotiating to late, if you need to get a deal done quickly. The other side, more often than not, will use that to their advantage.

2. Don’t beat around the bush! Be as direct as possible in telling the other side what you want. If you leave what you want to their imagination, then I can assure you it will not end up in your favor.

3. If your not dealing with the decision maker, have someone, an employee perhaps who is not a decision maker, negotiate on your behalf. This helps keep the playing field even.

Don’t be Shy…

Never be embarrassed when negotiating. Often, people new to negotiations, feel it is awkward to ask for a lower price or better terms. I assure you, anyone trying to sale you anything will be happy to consider a better price or great terms to help close a deal with you.

The worse they can say to you is “No”, but more often than not, the answer will be “yes”. Also, every now and then, you will find it easy to quickly get what you want, when this happens, don’t hesitate to ask for something else, something more. It is always good to ask for a better deal.

Learn To Listen…

Those who talk to much during the negotiating process, are usually the ones that lose.

The reason is, they don’t take the time to hear the otherside’s concerns and needs, this is always a mistake. If you understand the other sides goals as well as you understand your own, you will have a good idea how to position your needs and a solid understanding of what you might have to give away to keep the deal moving. Listen, quite often the other side will tell you everything you need to know to win.

Attitude is Everything…

Your behavior and attitude during the negotiation is important…

1. Keep your cool.

A level head will help you make better decisions and keep the conversation from becoming adversarial. I assure you, the moment you allow yourself to become angry over anything, is the moment you lose.

2. Don’t make a threat unless your ready to follow through.

You don’t want the other side to think your all mouth and no substance.

3. Don’t back away from whats important to you.

If you give up something that is important to you, something that you believe is a must have during the negotiation process, it will create negative feelings later on, quite often, those negative feelings will ruin the relationship.

Be prepared to walk away…

The most important rule for negotiations.. sometimes the two sides are going in the opposite directions and the deal just can’t get done. When this is the case, it is always better to move on than risk a bad deal. Go into each negotiation prepared for the worse and a plan for what you will do if things breakdown.

As my dad use to tell me, a smart business person never falls in love with the deal and ALWAYS is prepared to walk away, if you can’t walk away then don’t negotiate.

When we were kids we believed.

We believed we could do anything. Our parents would tell us all the things we could not do. Notice that if parents were to write instructions to their kids today, it would look something like this:

- Don’t run with scissors
- Don’t make a mess
- Don’t speak unless spoken to
- Don’t bother Mommy and Daddy when they are busy
- Etc.

Basically all the things that the kids cannot do. Then we enter school. School teaches us not to make mistakes, and how to follow instructions. They sometimes refer to a “permanent record” that your misdeeds will go on if you get out of line. Somewhere between being a kid and becoming an adult, we lose some or all of the belief that we can do whatever we set our minds to. What if we could get some of that back?

If You Don’t Believe In Yourself, Why The Hell Should Anyone Else?

I have coached hundreds and hundreds of individuals on how to build a homebased business or network marketing business opportunity. The difference between those that ultimately succeed and those that do not come down to one word, BELIEF. And I don’t mean simply stating their belief or wearing a T-shirt that says they believe, I mean truly having belief in themselves.

Lack of belief can show up in many different ways. It can show up with them blaming their sponsor, their company, their compensation plan, their product or even their noisy neighbors dog. These are all just ways of shifting focus from what the real problem is, and that is, their belief in themselves. When it comes to a homebased business or a network marketing business opportunity, if you don’t believe in you, no one else will either.

How Can You Build Your Belief?

“Doubt can only be removed by action.”
- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Don’t sit around contemplating. Throw yourself into your business. Be too busy to notice your lack of faith. Establish a gameplan of how much action you can take in one day…and then double it! We always underestimate how much we can accomplish and then are amazed at how much we got done when we HAD to do it. What if you pushed yourself like that everyday? What if you looked back at the end of the day and were PROUD of all you had accomplished? Well, you would start to believe. You would start to believe in yourself…then…so would others.

What a Difference a Week Makes…

This past week the network marketing business opportunity that I promote came out with a new promotion. This promotion allows people to enroll others at a significantly lower upfront cost and still pays them a commission. I have seen people produce like never before with this new promotion. Why? Because they believe they can. In fact, on day one of the promotion I had 3 of my reps email me telling me they had brought someone into the business. They had never sponsored anyone in 6 months and between the 3 of them had sponsored a combined 2 people in the last 5 years of being in the homebased business world. Finally, they believe they can do it, so they will continue!

Now is the Hardest Time to Believe but also the Most Important Time

It is hard for most to turn blinders to the mass mediocrity being produced by the media in this country and world. When most know that CNN stands for Constantly Negative News, it is hard to believe that one can build a homebased business. But, now is the best time to do so. More than ever before, people are looking for alternate ways to producing an income and having your own homebased business is one of the lowest risk, tax friendliest ways to do it. If you can show belief and faith in this economy, people will want to be around you simply because you are so much different than most people out there today. If you believe that last statement…it will show up for you in your life.

“I am looking for a lot of men who have an infinite capacity to not know what can’t be done.”
- Henry Ford

There are two things you must learn if your going to be successful at Network Marketing or MLM, that is prospecting and follow up.

As a business coach, mentor and MLM executive, I strongly believe that it would be great if all network marketers today knew who their targeted prospects and customers are. If I asked each one of you to tell me who your ideal prospect are, could you tell me?

Have you ever taken the time to truly identify your ideal prospect and what they’re like? I don’t mean paintbrushing a general description either, that hasn’t help you much, has it?

I suspect a majority of you answered “NO” to that question.

Too many network marketers can’t or haven’t identified their prospects and as consequence, they continue to “chase” any and all warm blooded, still breathing souls to sell their primary business to. By doing this, they work harder, not smarter, waste valuable time & resources, and they fail to grow their business leading to attrition after the enthusiastism wears off.

Worse yet, too many network marketers find it absolutely impossible to “walk away” from any prospect even when they know the prospect is not the right fit for their MLM.

Identifying your prospects and the desired target market will dynamically increase your percentage of success as well as help you grow your business with the same or less effort.

* Identifying prospects and customers that match up closely with your products, our company’s strengths, vision, mission, guiding principles and goals.

* You need to set aside time to carefully think about prospects that can be affected by using your products, because I can tell you this, there is no successful MLM’er in this world that is not a user of their own product. We all began as a user, even if we signed up on the first day… we were sold on the product!

* You need to develop a detail description of your prospects and customers, this will always be dynamic as you grow, your prospect and customer base grows and the growth of our product line.

* As I build my prospect and customer list, I also like to add extra details with such characteristics as: where they live, level of education, income level, skill sets, job titles, ect…  These items will be identifiers later on as you identify and sign more and more prospects. You should drill down the details on the ones that signed and the ones that ended up as customers. There should be some great data that you can help you be more successful at sign ups.

This will also help you identify how to approach or answer questions when speaking with a new prospect you just met at an event or social gathering.

Your success rate is directly determined by your ability to drill down your objective.

I have always been pretty good at achieving what I desired. I look at the rough patches in my life (been dead broke three times) and those were the times where I did not have a clear set of goals. I’m wired for achieving things and having goals. With some people, if they don’t have them, they’re just not that motivated. This blog is going to give you 7 tips to achieve whatever it is you want in life. (regardless of where you are and whatever your circumstances are)

Why have a desire to achieve? You know some people on this planet think that life is about getting by. They think that as long as nothing bad is happening that they are doing their duty as a human being. I think this life is to be lived BIG having fun and challenging ourselves all the way. I don’t think it is about living some lap of luxury where you never challenge yourself nor do I think it is reaching one final goal and then stopping all growth. Life should be a series of goals and accomplishments to be savored and enjoyed with people around you that you love!

Tip #1 – Know what you desire. Most people do not know. Most people have a vague interest in having more money, or random stuff but they never clearly define what they actually desire. It’s interesting that when you watch interviews of sports heroes, almost all of them tell how they envisioned that exact moment in their mind whether it be wining the Superbowl, Olympic event, etc.

Tip #2 – See yourself as already possessing that which you desire. Most people leave their dreams in the future. They are constantly “going to get there”. If you mentally project all your dreams in the future, they will remain in the future. Act as if you already have what you want and stop craving it or talking about when you are going to have it. How would you feel mentally if you already had that which you desire? Act that way!

Tip #3 – Get out of your head. No one meditated their way to success. It is popular for people to pick on the blockbuster movie phenomenon “The Secret” as people says it teaches people to just dream about success all day when that is not accurate. Know that when you make a ton of money people will criticize you too. Think about Jack Canfield’s story in the secret, he talks about seeing a magazine one day and how if he could just sell his books through that and he later met someone who worked for them at a speech he was giving. He didn’t go home and burn incense and pray to the magazine gods to guide the person to his doorstep. Too many people live in their head. Visualizing, believing, conveiving are all parts of the process, but, you cannot get anywhere without massive action. Massive action also gives you the confidence in that you deserve it too. Most people cannot believe they deserve something UNLESS they work hard, perhaps if we could do that we could manifest things but for now, take action.

Tip #4 – Change Your Friends. This will be an unpopular one with those that don’t really want to change their life. Notice I said change your friends and not to become a pompous idiot. Some people seem to confuse the two. This does not mean all of a sudden that you are better than your current friends but if you are hanging out people that spend their days picking apart your dreams like they are getting paid to do so, success is going to be almost impossible. You are the average of your 5 closest friends and when you hang around those that have the mindset and lifestyle you desire, you cannot help but change.

Tip #5 – Stop caring what people think of you. This may help you out with #4. If you try to please everyone around you, you will lead a miserable life. Care what YOU think about YOU. You will never please everyone but you can please yourself.

Tip #6 – Stomp your feet. There is no power in being timid. Stop tiptoeing through life trying to get everyone’s permission and go out and seize what you desire and deserve. Be bold. Stop seeing all the reasons why you cannot do something and know that you are (insert first name) Freaking (insert last name) so you can accomplish whatever the hell you want.

Tip #7 – Shut your cakehole. Stop talking about how you are going to do this and that and just do it. Ever notice that the people that get the most done, just get it done and don’t talk about getting it done. Some think motivation is coming up with a big set of words on how you are going to accomplish this, that is not action. People in action do not have time to tell everyone they know how successful they are going to be, they are simply too busy taking action toward achieving what they want to desire.

To Your Success!

The Stress of It All…

In my quest to provided the best information, the best strategies and the best training to my friends, I find at times to share some of my mentor, Ray Higdon, thoughts, stories and training. I thought this article to be so powerful, I just had to share.

Ever gone through times where you get down due to circumstances outside your control? Well, you should not allow that to happen, at least for very long! This article is meant to help condition your mind to no longer allow those forces outside your control to affect you emotionally in a negative way.

Key # 1, is eliminating your perception of entitlement. Have you ever asked a favor of a friend or associate only to be sorely disappointed by their reaction or response? Did you find yourself thinking, “Wow, I have done so much for that person(s), I can’t believe they would turn around and treat me that way”? Chances are that you have been in that situation before but, you should NOT allow yourself to stay in that state. If you help people solely in the hope of actually helping them rather than in the swap of favors or to receive some reciprocate action, and then you will never be disappointed! One thing that you should know is people have a very short memory of where you have helped them but we have a very long memory of where we have helped others. What do you do if someone you have helped out or supported acts in a selfish or disappointing manner? Offer to help them more! As strange as that sounds, life is about managing your state of mind, not the minds of other people. If you can walk around with the knowledge that you are a helper of others, you will be able to maintain happiness in your mind, which, should be the goal!

Key # 2, is know that is it much better to be happy than to be right. And rare is the occasion that you can be both! If someone is arguing with you and you know that they are dead wrong…STOP ARGUING! Choose to be happy rather than try to be right. This is good for two reasons, 1) They may actually be right and you may be missing facts and 2) the more you put yourself in a negative or combative state, the greater chance you have to attract more things to be negative or combative about. Another benefit of having this mindset is that a lot of times those people will learn that they were wrong and then they will admire you for not trying to argue with them being that you were right.

Key # 3, is if you have a thought that does not serve you, throw it away! All of us have negative thoughts creep in our mind but it is our choice to accept them, dwell on them or say “I don’t think so” and throw them away. You will never be able to eliminate the possibility of having fleeting negative thoughts but you can eliminate the length of time you spend keeping those thoughts in your mind. If you cannot think of something positive to think, just remember some of these phrases; everything is alright, I feel Fantastic or I am so happy and excited to have so many good things coming to me right now! Just saying those statements will make you feel better than you were prior to thinking positively.

I hope these simple ideas will help you lead a happier and more productive life. The more we reject the victim mentality along with keeping our thoughts positive, the better our lives will be!

To Your Success!

Are you the Hunted or the Hunter?

Okay, so lets walk through the life of the average beginning network marketer. I think it goes something like this…Bill goes to a home meeting with 9 other people, he was hesitant to go, but his buddy, Jim, talked him into it as a favor. After the presentation, 7 of the people leave and 3 stay behind with questions. Bill is one of the people that stays, and you can see on his face “he gets it”. Bill’s head rotated about 3 times when he saw the power of the business plan and what the possibilities could be. Great, now what?

So the next day, Bill calls everyone he knows and tells them about this great product and business plan he saw last night, how he is going to change the world and live on a beach for the rest of his life. I love Bill’s enthusiasm, but much like a sprint racer, Bill is going to be good for about 100 yards, not a 20+ mile marathon. Why? Because 70-80% of the people that Bill talks to are going to tell him he’s crazy, those things don’t work, etc.

Bill is not only using the wrong method to approach them, he’s wasting his time talking to the wrong people. The sad part is, from a human psychology stand point, Bill, and many like him, will mentally quit this business before they ever get started simply because they believe what their prospects tell them. Humans are no different than animals in that we have a pack mentality. If the pack tells Bill he can’t be successful, most Bills will believe this. More importantly, Bill’s sponsor and leadership line set him up for failure. This story has played out so many times that it has given our industry a bad name.

So what’s the answer? Bill was never taught that he needs to spend his time talking to people who want to hear his message. There is nothing wrong with Bill contacting his warm market, but he needs to have a system to pre-qualify those people so that he doesn’t face the rejection he hasn’t learned to deal with this early in his career as a networker. Once they are pre-qualified, Bill can efficiently spend his time with all willing participants instead of having to do the qualifying himself. Bill’s confidence will grow as he sees immediate success in his business and he will rapidly assume the position of leader.

Even better, Bill can now duplicate this proven success formula to everyone on his emerging team, because unlike traditional methods that require a lot of face to face prospecting and selling, the new marketing model requires nothing more than a computer connected to the internet and a cell phone!

Does such a program exist? Absolutely! This is what our team has implemented successfully and duplicated globally. One more reason to take a hard look at your primary business and the upline that is leading you.

If your not happy or not getting support and proper training that make you the hunted instead of the hunter… more reason to join our team!

  • Isn’t it funny how a $100 “looks” so big when you take it to church, but so small when you take it to the mall.
  • Isn’t it funny how long it takes to serve God for an hour, but how quickly a team plays 60 minutes of basketball.
  • Isn’t it funny how long a couple of hours spent at church are, but how short they are when watching a movie.
  • Isn’t it funny how we can’t think of anything to say when we pray, but don’t have difficulty thinking of things to talk about to our friends.
  • Isn’t it funny how we get thrilled when a baseball game goes into extra innings, but we complain when a sermon is longer than the regular time.
  • Isn’t it funny how hard it is to read a chapter in the bible, but how easy it is to read 100 pages of a best selling novel.
  • Isn’t it funny how people want to get a front seat at the game or concert, but scramble to get a back seat at the church service.
  • Isn’t it funny how we need 2 or 3 weeks advance notice to fit a church event into our schedule, but can adjust our schedule for other events at the last moment.
  • Isn’t it funny how hard it is for people to learn a simple gospel well enough to tell others, but how simple it is for the same people to remember and repeat gossip over and over.
  • Isn’t it funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says.
  • Isn’t it funny how everyone wants to go to heaven, provided they do not have to believe, or to think, or to say, or do anything.
  • Isn’t it funny how you can send a 1000 “jokes” through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing.

FUNNY, ISN’T IT ?….. Not Really!!!

Are you laughing?
or
Are you thinking?

Wished I could take credit for writing this, I can only take credit for sharing it, but again that is like the gospel. We can’t take credit for writing it, but we can take credit for sharing it. When was the last time you shared?

Did you say “Networking”?

Over the years that I have been involved in this industry, I have been asked many times why in the world I would get involved in what many uninformed people call a “pyramid scam”.

Early in my networking career, I feared that question, because I think I hadn’t completely overcome my belief that it wasn’t.

I finally had an epiphany one day and realized that not only is networking the most efficient business model in existence, it is the most level playing field out there where anyone who wants can be a winner.

Like most people, I have worked hard my whole life.

I have been very blessed to have held some excellent positions.

I do this because I truly love what I do, and it offers flexibility for me to run my business full time and lead my team with my partners.

But lets face it, corporate America is the largest pyramid scam of all.  I work for a company that has tens of thousands of employees all over the world.  Even though I am fairly highly educated by today’s standards, my chances of becoming CEO, let alone a VP are about slim to none.  More importantly, I would have very little control over that happening.

Networking, done correctly, offers the opportunities that existed for the average person before WalMart and other super conglomerates came into existence.  Back to the days of old where a person could hang out a shingle and be in business.  There was a simple efficiency to it.

In every small town there was a general store, a blacksmith, a lawyer, a doctor, and of course a tavern, just to name a few.  As a small business owner, I competed with other small business owners and it was a level playing field.

But like anything else in life, the rules change.  Traditional methods no longer work as efficiently as they used to.  Does that mean that network marketing is no longer a viable option?

Absolutely not!  In fact, if you are willing to change your approach, networking has never been a better opportunity.  But let’s remember one thing, the key word in Network Marketing is Marketing!

You can’t have a Network until you Market properly.

Most networkers view themselves as product or sales reps for their individual opportunities.  Perhaps there was a time when this was appropriate.  In fact in today’s information driven society, this idea is all wrong.

We are inundated today with ads, sales literature, offers, etc.

In no time in history have we been so bombarded with information.  Your job as a networker is not to be a product salesperson, but the CEO of your own marketing firm.  You can have a product that is better than sliced bread, but without proper marketing, you are dead in the water.

So keep reading, keep learning, and never give up!

To Your Success!
